How to Install a Luk Clutch Kit: A Step-by-Step Guide

Installing a new clutch kit can be a daunting task for those who have never done it before. However, with the right tools and guidance, it can be done easily and efficiently. In this guide, we will walk you through the process of installing a Luk clutch kit step-by-step.

Before you begin, make sure you have all the necessary tools and equipment, including a torque wrench, a socket set, a ratchet, a clutch alignment tool, and a jack and jack stands. It is also recommended to have a friend assist you.

Step 1: Remove the old clutch

Start by disconnecting the negative battery cable and removing the transmission from your vehicle. You can use a jack to lift the vehicle and support it with jack stands. Once the transmission is removed, locate the old clutch and pressure plate and remove them using a socket and ratchet. Be careful not to damage the flywheel.

Step 2: Clean the flywheel and install the new clutch

Once the old clutch is removed, use a wire brush to clean the flywheel thoroughly. Make sure there are no oil or grease residues on the surface. Then, install the new Luk clutch disk onto the flywheel using the clutch alignment tool provided in the kit. Make sure the disk is centred and aligned with the flywheel.

Step 3: Install the pressure plate and throwout bearing

Next, install the pressure plate onto the flywheel and tighten the bolts evenly using a torque wrench. Make sure the pressure plate is properly aligned with the clutch disk. Then, install the throwout bearing onto the clutch fork.

Step 4: Reinstall the transmission and test the clutch

Now that the clutch kit is installed, it’s time to reinstall the transmission and reconnect any wires or hoses that were disconnected. Once everything is back in place, reconnect the negative battery cable and start the engine. Press the clutch pedal and shift through the gears to test the new clutch kit.

Step 5: Adjust the clutch pedal and break in the new clutch

If the clutch is not engaging properly or the pedal feels too soft or hard, you may need to adjust the clutch cable or hydraulic system. Refer to your vehicle’s manual for specific instructions. It is also important to break in the new clutch by driving gently for the first few hundred miles.

Conclusion:

Installing a Luk clutch kit is not as difficult as it may seem. By following these steps and taking your time, you can ensure a successful installation and enjoy the benefits of a new, high-performance clutch.
